The barcode inspector scans packaging and print-ready assets for barcodes (including QR codes) and lists what it finds, so you can validate barcode type, encoded value, and size in the Proof Viewer.

Available on: Enterprise

This feature is in Public Preview.

For information about limitations, support, and risks during release phases, see Ziflow feature release phases.

Turn on barcode inspection for your account

Ziflow administrators turn barcode inspection on or off at the account level.

Turning on barcode inspection applies to proofs created after you turn it on. Proofs created earlier aren't scanned retroactively.

  1. Log into Ziflow. Select your user avatar and choose Settings > Proof Settings > Proof Viewer.
  2. Under Other options, toggle Show barcode scanner to the on setting.
  3. Select Save changes.

Scan a proof for barcodes

  1. Open a proof that contains a barcode. The barcode scanner icon appears in the Proof Viewer toolbar.

The icon only appears when Ziflow detects at least one barcode on an asset that was added after the setting was enabled. If a proof has no detectable barcodes, the icon doesn't show.

  2. Select the barcode scanner icon. A window opens listing every barcode Ziflow detected on the asset.

  3. Select a barcode in the list to highlight it on the asset, or select a barcode on the asset to select it in the list.
  4. Select the copy icon next to a barcode's encoded value to copy it to your clipboard.

Each detected barcode includes the following information:

Field Description
Type The barcode format, for example UPC-A, EAN-13, QR.
Encoded value The data encoded in the barcode: a numeric string or a URL.
Size The barcode's physical size, in millimeters.
Page The page the barcode appears on, for multi-page documents.

The barcode inspector supports all static file types and multi-page documents. Any reviewer with access to a proof can use it, including through a public proof link.

Supported barcode types

The barcode inspector recognizes 34 barcode symbologies.
