Manage image rendering in the Proof Viewer

Ziflow lets you manage how static images are rendered in the Proof Viewer to balance color consistency, browser reliability, and performance. Depending on your file type, color profile, and Proof Viewer administrator settings, Ziflow displays images either as original image files or converts them into proof tiles.

Original image files

Original image files are the RGB image files (such as PNG, BMP, or JPEG) uploaded and displayed in the Proof Viewer. RGB image files are not rendered into proof tiles unless their file size is over the Show original image threshold.

Proof tiles

Image profiles and formats that require conversion for reliable web viewing (such as PDF, PSD, AI) are rendered into proof tiles. When an image is rendered into proof tiles, Ziflow:

  • Converts the image into RGB
  • Breaks the image into smaller pieces (tiles)

Using proof tiles when displaying images in the Proof Viewer:

  • Improves proof loading speed – the browser only loads the parts of the image that are currently visible on screen
  • Maintains high quality when zooming – detailed versions of specific areas are loaded as users zoom in, keeping the image sharp and clear
  • Ensures stable performance with large or complex files – reducing the risk of slowdowns or browser crashes

Images with CMYK color profiles

To ensure consistent display across web browsers, CMYK images are always converted into RGB proof tiles, regardless of file size.

Important things to know:

Configure image rendering in the Proof Viewer

Your Ziflow administrator can change the Show original image setting that controls whether RGB images are displayed as original files or converted into proof tiles.

Default setting: RGB images under 10 MB are shown as original images, over 10MB are converted to proof tiles.

You can change the size limit up to 100 MB, or choose to process all images as proof tiles.

  1. Go to Settings > Proofing Settings > Proof Viewer > Other Options

  2. Find Show original image

  3. Choose one of the following:

    • A file size threshold under which images stay in their original format

    • Always process to convert images to RGB proof tiles for consistent display

This setting applies only to proofs uploaded after the change. Existing proofs keep the settings used at creation time.
