Disconnect or move a proof version

If you are an admin or proof manager, you can split a proof’s version history at a specific point without deleting any files. This option is available only when the proof has more than one version.

  • You cannot delete a version that sits in the middle of a proof’s version history. To remove an unwanted middle version, use this workaround: Delete a proof version in the middle of a proof.
  • Disconnecting (splitting) a version always affects that version and any versions that come after it.
  •

    Split (disconnect) a proof version

Disconnecting a version does not affect just that single version. It splits the proof into two separate proofs based on version order.

    Use this option when:

    • A version was added to the wrong proof history
    • You need to separate newer versions from earlier approved or archived versions
    • A version should no longer follow the original review timeline

This is not a way to delete a version in the middle of a proof.

    Example

If a proof has multiple versions, for example V1 through V5, and you disconnect V3:

    • Versions V1 and V2 remain linked as the original proof
    • Versions V3, V4, and V5 are moved together into a new proof
    • No versions are deleted
    1. Open the Proof Details page.
    2. Find the version where you want to split the proof history.

    3. Select the context menu (three dots) and choose Disconnect from proof.

    Result

    • The proof history is split at the selected version.

    • Earlier versions remain in the original proof.

    • The selected version and any newer versions form a new proof.

    Move a proof version

You can move a proof version to a different proof. The moved version becomes the latest version in its new proof.

    Use this option when:

    • A version was uploaded to the wrong proof
    • A version belongs with a different review history

This action moves a single version, not an entire version chain.

    1. Open the Proof Details page.

    2. Select the context menu (three dots) and choose Move version.
    3. In the Move version window, select the proof version that you want yours to follow.

    Result

The selected version is added as the latest version of the chosen proof.
